Rebuild: Our New Vision

By Olivia Barker White | CEO

We have been bringing hope and love to vulnerable children for over a decade. We started out by running Kids Clubs (hence our name!) in the slums of Uganda, giving children the opportunity to have fun and feel safe and loved. This is still at the heart of what we do but over the last 11 years we have grown extensively and our projects have expanded and evolved. Through lots of fundraising and hard work over the last 11 years we have provided 1.5 million hot meals for hungry children; free education for over 1000 children; counselling for 3000 young people; vital skills training for 700 vulnerable women; and reunited 100 children back with loving families through our Ewafe project.

During the COVID-19 crisis we converted our education project classrooms into food banks to feed the most vulnerable families who were struggling due to not being able to work in lockdown. As of the end of July, we have now given out over 1 million food parcels to over 150,000 people – in less than 4 months! These 1 million food parcels have not only saved people’s lives form starvation, they have also let thousands of vulnerable families know that they have not been forgotten, that they are loved and they are cared for. I am so proud that we have been able to bring hope and love through helping hundreds of thousands of people to survive this crisis.

We are now looking ahead to how we can help these communities to recover and rebuild from the effects of COVID-19 and the lockdown in Uganda. We have increased the capacity of our Ewafe project home to respond to the increased numbers of children becoming abandoned, we are scaling up our safeguarding presence and counselling services, and we are increasing our vocational training activities to help families find a sustainable way to get out of poverty.

We want to help the vulnerable children that we support to not only survive this crisis, but to thrive in the future. This feels like a new shift in focus for us, as we reflect on all that we have achieved so far and look forward to what we hope to do in the future.

To encompass this, we have developed a new strapline - Kids Club Kampala: Helping vulnerable kids in Uganda survive and thrive. Bringing hope and love is still at the heart of what we do, but we feel this new strapline encompasses who we are now and where we hope to go in the future.

Alongside this, our mission is to support vulnerable kids in Uganda. Providing for both their immediate needs and strengthening their futures through educating, feeding, protecting, and skilling. Our vision remains the same - to see children’s lives transformed, communities empowered and poverty reduced throughout Kampala’s slums.

Thank you for all of your support over the last 11 years. Together we can support vulnerable children in Uganda’s slums to not just survive, but to thrive into the future. If you are able to partner with us in this new season by becoming a regular giver, it would have an incredible impact. Thank you.
