Projects Update: Summer 2025

By Sarah Wilson | Communications Officer

This quarter, our dedicated staff and community safeguarding officers worked hard to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and teenagers. Through implementing a variety of focused initiatives, they created safer environments and provided crucial support to young people across communities.

This quarter:

  • 743 children attended our Saturday Kids Clubs across 10 centres.
  • 309 children received meals during the school holidays through our Community Feeding Project.
  • 546 girls attended our Girls Support Group sessions.
  • 2,091 period products were supplied to girls aged 12 to 17.
  • 61 boys participated in weekly football training through our Football Project.
  • 6 children were admitted to our Ewafe home, 4 children were reintegrated with loving families, and 1 child was successfully placed into foster care.

Molly’s story

In 2019, at 5 years old, Molly* ran away from home due to a difficult family situation, and she was referred into our care for her safety. At our Ewafe home, Molly was rehabilitated through counselling sessions. She particularly enjoyed play time and making crafts with other children.

In June 2025, at 10 years old, Molly was successfully placed with a loving foster family. She is now full of life and ambition. She shared: “I am so grateful and happy that I have been chosen to be a part of a family that will love me and take care of me.”

Over the past few months, we have continued to provide free education to children in vulnerable positions through our Encouraging Education and Child Sponsorship Projects.

This quarter:

  • 97 children participated in our Encouraging Education Project.
  • 3 meetings were held with parents across our 3 Encouraging Education centres.
  • 28 children attended school under the Gweneth School Project.
  • 191 children attended school through our Child Sponsorship Project.
  • 11 children successfully graduated from the Child Sponsorship Project.
Jade’s story

When Jade* was in secondary school, her mother fell ill and her father struggled to financially support the family alone. Jade took on informal cleaning and gardening jobs, so that her family could afford basic necessities.

Thanks to Kids Club Kampala, Jade was able to complete secondary school and she is now pursuing a degree in Education. She dreams of securing a stable job to change her family’s future and inspire others facing hardship.

Jade said: “No matter how hard life is, you can always begin afresh.”

This quarter, our Family Strengthening Programme equipped more than 75 people with practical skills, opening doors for them to secure stable work and support their families. In recent months, we also saw a significant increase in the number of teenagers and young adults enrolling on our vocational courses!
This quarter:
  • 60 students took part in our Tailoring and Knitting Project.
  • 55 students attended business training through our Tailoring and Knitting Project.
  • 15 boys and young men participated in our Carpentry Project.
  • 10 children were looked after at our Hope Centre creche.

Aidan*, one of our current students on the Carpentry Project, said:

“After my parents were no longer able to pay for my school fees, I found myself unsure of what the future held. That’s when a friend who had been part of the Kids Club Kampala Carpentry Project introduced me to it. Joining the project was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I have no regrets."
