Kisiwani Girl child with COVID is a community mobilization and sensitization project aimed at reaching to the most COVID -19 affected population majority being girls.The goal of the project is to sensitive girls on menstrual management ,train them on how to make hand wash soaps as a COVID responsive mechanism and sell to generate some income to reduce dependency on boyfriends to exchange sex for money to buy sanitary towels to reduce high rate of pregnancy . we shall also supply sanitary pads
There is high poverty level among the parents who are now unable to buy sanitary towels for girls to improve menstrual hygiene among the girls,the government is not supporting either ,so girls are undergoing difficult moments in managing their menstrual increasing absenteeism and lack of concentration in class for the girls lowering their academic performance.The COVID-19pandemic brought loss of jobs ,business girls are now forced to exchange sex with money increasing pregnancy cases , .
by training girls on menstrual management they will be able to manage it and this will reduce school absenteeism,hygiene and self esteem.The skills acquired in soap making will increase their capital base to be able to buy sanitary towel and reduce dependency on men exchange sex for money to buy towels.The project also aims at initiating a water project in the 4 villages as an income generating and also improve sanitation as a COVID responsive mechanism.
The project will educate over 1000 girls on menstrual management who will act as champions in spreading the same initiative to other villages The project will increase school girl child retention and completion The project will reach out to over 1000 parents with skills on alternative livelihoods to rise out of poverty
