Weaving Autonomy and Rights in Venezuela This project transforms high-end craftsmanship into economic dignity for deafblind women. We integrate vocational training with access to health, specialized education, and Usher Syndrome research. By securing a network of professional guide-interpreters and specialized staff, we will impact 904 lives. We are sustaining Venezuela's only specialized network to ensure independence and full social inclusion for a historically invisible population.
Deafblindness causes absolute isolation in Venezuela. SOCIEVEN is the only institution providing specialized support, but we are facing a survival crisis. Our closure would leave hundreds of families without any alternative. We are at risk of losing 30 years of expertise and specialized human talent (guide-interpreters) due to a lack of funding. Without support, the deafblind population will fall into permanent silence and institutional abandonment.
We guarantee autonomy by rescuing specialized human talent (staff and weavers). The project ensures the operation of our 'Model House' to train deafblind women in high-end textile production. By linking their art with design markets, we transform isolation into economic independence, preserve 30 years of institutional expertise, and create a productive and replicable model for inclusion
We will achieve institutional sustainability, ensuring SOCIEVEN's unique expertise persists. Long-term, participants become autonomous entrepreneurs, reducing dependence on grants. This model sets a precedent for real labor inclusion in Venezuela, transforming social perceptions of deafblindness and establishing a productive network that guarantees dignity, permanent income, and visibility for a historically overlooked population.
