This project will empower 100 vulnerable girls including those living with disabilities to acquire skills in knitting diverse products for income generations. It is now Five months going to six since the COVID-19 outbreak in Uganda among other countries forced closure of all learning institutions with over 15 million learner currently stranded in homes and communities.. Girls and children living in foster homes and other vulnerable communities are becoming more vulnerable and more stressed. It is time sensitive to engage vulnerable learners in alternative learning opportunities that provide hands on skills- much more empowering !
Skills girls who are at risk of violence and living in stressful situations will enable them acquire hands-on skills in knitting diverse products which is an assured source of income now and in future. Secondly, keeping girls busy as they learn, interact and acquire information they need will enable them make healthier choices in challenging gender social norms which are part of expotenytial increase in violence again girls especially those affected by COVID-19
The project will equip 100 girls with skills in knitting diverse products in one foster home taking care of vulnerable youth. The project will train 20 trainers of trainees who will work with other surrounding communities by setting up " A skills Village" club to support more girls and young women acquire skills and be able to market their products collectively.
