Summary

The Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum is dedicated to research, remember and recognize Poland's citizens' fight for freedom and survival in eastern Poland and in forced exile during World War II. We need to make a major upgrade to the Virtual Museum to make it up to date, reliable and secure. Though this will require serious funding, it is a small investment to ensure the ongoing operation of the Virtual Museum and the invaluable stories of wartime survival that it will preserve for years to come.

Challenge

We help the Survivors share and validate their experiences struggling against 3 violent forces during World War II in eastern Poland and in exile outside the country: Soviet Russia from the east, Nazi Germany from the west, and Ukrainian Nationalist insurgents from right next door. We help family members understand and forgive, though never to forget. We help the broader community now and in future generations to learn about this often covered-up and denied history from World War II.

Solution

The Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum is a permanent, multi-media platform allowing visitors to contribute to and actively learn about this almost unknown chapter of World War 2. The museum contains 29 interactive galleries, over 800 testimonies, 300,000 entries on the Wall of Names and 15,000 photos and documents in the Hall of Memories. There is a comprehensive resource center and an innovative education program in 20th century Polish history. We also run conferences and educational events.

Long-Term Impact

The Virtual Museum preserves this history for the future through its collection of survivor testimonies, individual's names and profiles, documents, photographs, historical galleries supported by online education programs, conferences and exhibitions. Hundreds of thousands have visited the Virtual Museum online since 2009, with over 90,000 visitors in 2015 alone. Partnerships with leading museums, archives and other historical institutions further extend its reach and longevity around the world.
