Qtly Report of La Fondita de Jesus en la Comunidad

By Edwin Edgardo Otero-Cuevas | Director of Development & External Resources

Dear social investors:

Receive our greetings from the members of Corporación La Fondita de Jesús’ family. Hope everyone is safe during the emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are closer to the solution for this global situation. With great respect, we want to keep you up to date of what we have been doing with those most in need during the quarterly period of February 2020 to May 2021, with efforts of the staff of “La Fondita de Jesús en la Comunidad”.

We had the opportunity to impact the lives of 1,603 non-duplicated people in the following 15 vulnerable communities of San Juan: El Hangar, Villa Clemente, Tratalleres, San Cristóbal Apartments, Plebiscitos, La Inmaculada Elderly, Casa Juan Ruiz Vélez Elderly, Condominio Bahía A, La Marina, El Gandul, Shangai, Beatriz Lasalle Elderly, Playita, Paseo del Conde & La Perla. Of those, 57% were females, 42% males, 0.5% trans women and 0.5% trans men. In terms of age, 56% of the impacted people were once again 60 to 79.

Some services were provided face-to-face with the strictest prevention measures, while others were provided on distance, to minimize the risks of infection with COVID-19. Our staff were able to deliver a total of 6,230 services units to the communities, as follows {service (units)}:

  • food (hot meals/lunches [2,475])
  • referrals (1, including emotional support)
  • educational materials (1,660)
  • prevention kits (560)
  • OTC medicine kits (174)
  • COVID-19 tests (18)
  • emergency food bags (1,029)
  • electrical appliances (5)
  • virtual meetings with community leaders (24)
  • workshops (2)
  • recreational activities with safety measures (250)
  • donated resources (33)

The following themes were developed with residents among the impacted communities: “General aspects about COVID-19 vaccines”, “How to keep clean hands”, “Five healthy habits for a better quality of life”, “Should I use my mask even in my community?” & “Music: motor and nostalgia”.

Additionally, we have continued to provide services to the homeless in our organization. As always, everyone is following the established safety measures, including our volunteers and employees.

Our priority is always to continue promoting the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, employees and collaborators in our facilities. Social investors like you are our key supporters to continue with our mission, for the impact and transformation of so many lives.

Thank you, thank you very much for the opportunity you give us consistently! Should you need more information or if you have any question about this project, please do not hesitate to contact us at 787-724-4051 Ext. 305 or eotero@lafonditadejesus.org. Thank you!
