Receive our greetings from the members of Corporación La Fondita de Jesús’ family. Hope everyone is safe during these difficult times we are going through. Once again, with great respect we want to show you what we’ve been doing with those most in need during the quarterly period of November 2020 to January 2021, with efforts of the staff of “La Fondita de Jesús en la Comunidad”.
We had the opportunity to impact the lives of 1,887 non-duplicated people in the following 11 vulnerable communities of San Juan: El Hangar, Villa Clemente, Tratalleres, San Cristóbal Apartments, Plebiscitos, La Inmaculada Elderly, Casa Juan Ruiz Vélez Elderly, Condominio Bahía A, La Marina, El Gandul and Shangai. Of those, 62% were females, 37% males, 0.5% trans women and 0.5% trans men. In terms of age, 52% of the impacted people were 60 to 79.
Some services were provided in person, and others on distance, to minimize the risks of infection with COVID-19. The services provided were as follows [service (units)]: food (hot meals/lunches and snaks [822]); referrals (20, including emotional support); educational materials (1,308); prevention kits (236); orientation interventions (4); emergency food bags (1,040); preventive assistance for the elder (9); and virtual meetings with community leaders (8). The following themes were developed in 40 virtual workshops: “Precautions during holidays to prevent COVID-19”, “Mindfulness for emotional care”, “Importance of hand washing”, “Celebration during the pandemic” & “Ideas for promoting and maintaining health and wellness”.
Additionally, we have continued to provide services to the homeless in our organization. As always, everyone is following safety measures, including our volunteers and employees.
