Dear friends:
Wishing you all a very happy and productive new year! We are very glad to greet you again, to keep you informed of our achievements and challenges in the provision of services of “La Fondita de Jesús en la Comunidad” to those most in need during the quarterly period from October 2021 to January 2022.
During these four (4) months, we impacted the lives of 2,237 non-duplicated people (22% more than in the previous period reported) in the following vulnerable communities
Of the people served, 56% were females, 45% males, 1% trans women and 1% trans men. Although this project impacts the communities as a whole, we place special emphasis on the elderly, with a 56% of people with 60 to 79 during the reported period.
As in the past period, there are services that continue to be provided face-to-face with the strictest prevention measures, while others were provided on distance, to minimize the risks of infection with COVID-19. Nevertheless, to the spike in cases of COVID-19 that has been affecting Puerto Rico, and since the Municipality of San Juan has not enabled many of its community centers, it has been necessary to offer virtual workshops. This has been a challenge, since not all the elderly has the knowledge and skills to manage technology or easy access to the Internet.
“La Fondita de Jesús en la Comunidad” was able to deliver a total of 5,679 units of services to the communities served, as follows {service (units)}:
As part of the 71 workshops developed, our professionals worked with themes such as “Mental health and wellbeing”, “Painting Christmas” and “Gender perspective & violence”.
Restrictions related to COVID-19 have been really challenging, as well as the lack of community centers available for the development of activities and workshops. Communities have had access to COVID-19 tests and vaccines thanks to efforts of nonprofit organizations.
Community leaders have tremendously welcomed all the preventive recommendations from our educational staff. Also, the community leaders have been consistent in communicating with “La Fondita de Jesús en la Comunidad” when they have needed prevention equipment, educational material, and follow-up and support for people who have been impacted by the pandemic. We continue to support these community leaders, since they are concerned about the upcoming decisions regarding providing educational and recreational spaces for their communities.
We are grateful for the support you give us every day to continue with our mission! For additional information or if you have any question about this report, please do not hesitate to contact us at 787-724-4051 Ext. 305 or eotero@lafonditadejesus.org. Thank you!
