Summary

La Jacarina Foundation is a Sanctuary for rescued dogs, its members pursue the well-being of our 4-legged friends and also those who live around us. We seek to reduce the stray dog population that exists in Cuenca, through spay and neuter, education and raising awareness programs; because we know that there is no home for everyone.

Challenge

Dogs living on the street is not exclusive to a particular city or country, it has to do with socio-economic and cultural factors that have their origin in insufficient citizen education. Unfortunately, not all dogs have owners who act responsibly, neglect them, mistreat them, and end up abandoning them on the streets, where they are exposed to preventable diseases, hunger, accidents, and indiscriminate reproduction.

Solution

More than 60 thousand dogs wonder about Cuencas streets. It is for this reason that we believe that through spay and neuter, accompanied by education and awareness reduces canine overpopulation in street situations. Together with our partners, volunteers and donors we will reach our goal.

Long-Term Impact

From 2017 to the day, around 400 dogs have been sterilized with many difficulties, especially financial ones. Our goal is to increase the number of spays and neuters to reach or exceed 200 per year. This would improve the quality of life of both animals and people. By spaying 1 female, the birth of approximately 100 puppies is prevented, whom may end up in poor condition.
