ADR is a nonprofit operating in Pallisa, Uganda to support the rights of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and school dropout youth with access to a quality education. ADR promotes and advocates for these groups to ensure that local and international resources mobilized are prudently managed in an open, accountable and transparent manner. This project will support the construction of a school for OVC's, a vocational institute for dropout youth, as well as a health center for the community.
Poverty is the key issue contributing to a significant number of orphaned children and adolescent youth that are not able to complete a quality education, gain proper healthcare to treat common illness like HIV and Malaria, or gain access to clean water. Pallisa lacks adequate support or structures to address such problems. The first beneficiaries will be children (OVC's) who will have a proper school & clinic to attend, and jobless/dropout youth, a place to get trained to contribute to society.
Presently, the project has put up a temporal shelter as a school to enable disadvantaged children in the affected community have access to education and also started a vocational/technical institute to help train them in various non-formal skills. In respect to their socio-economic backgrounds, most of these youth are needy/orphaned and school dropouts that lack proper guidance or care, and which are unable to gain employable skills to compete favorably in today's market. ADR aims to solve this.
Funds raised will help create positive change in the attitudes of these youth with the skills acquired to earn a daily living, to engage in income generating projects for self reliance, create jobs in their individual communities, and to help improve the income level of their families, which in turn will assist in paying for the education of their siblings. In the long-term, this will bring remarkable impact to these communities as they become self sustaining and able to meet their needs.
