Challenge

The population of Uganda estimated at 35.4 million persons and population growth, the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Situation Analysis Report, 2009 estimated that nearly half (48%) of all Ugandan orphans are a result of HIV/AIDS. Up to 43% of all children (7.3 million) live in moderately vulnerable situation, while 8% (1.3 million) live in critically vulnerable situation. Approximately 14% of children in Uganda below 18 years of age are orphans, among which 20% of them are aged 6-17 years.

Solution

The project targets to contribute to the scaling down of the level of vulnerability in Wakiso District by acquiring a 5 acre piece of land for establishing a permanent support school that can hold a capacity of 300 children. Implementation will be done in three years.

Long-Term Impact

The project will scale down the level of vulnerability in Wakiso district by feeding, skilling, educating and housing 300 less fortunate, and vulnerable children.
