Summary

Renovations at Langoni are complete & we are taking the project even further! The health of the Wazee residents is our top priority. In return we began to profile each member & their medical history & connected with a professional physiotherapist & occupational therapist to do a medical assessment of the residents. We have received a report detailing the long- & short- term needs of the residents, & also the staff at the home in order to improve their lives & health.

Challenge

Located in a poverty-stricken area & without relatives to look after them, the elderly are placed into an underfunded & under-resourced government home. Without much physical or mental stimulation the elderly become weaker & live out their days isolated, house bound, & without dignity. They have limited access to vital medical care & nobody to pay for their funeral. Further, there is no education program in Tanzania that provides special skills training for working with the elderly.

Solution

We aim to improve their health by increasing mobility through physiotherapy & support plans, improve hygiene, increase independence & empowerment through staff training & accountability sessions. There are times where further medical attention is needed outside of the home, but government funding is slow & minimal. For some of the residents, not getting the medication & treatment they need in a timely manner can be life threatening. Our additional medical fund covers these emergency costs.

Long-Term Impact

Through training local staff on ground, they will continuously implement their skills for years to come. We will also establish long-term management plan with the Council as part of the staff up-scaling & monitoring. To ensure the sustainability and longevity of the African Impact Foundation during COVID-19, donations made via this page as of April 10, 2020, will be used to support all of our projects and operations across Southern and Eastern Africa.
