Leap Skills, a Somo partner in India, mentors, trains, and provides employment opportunities to young adults as they transition from education to work in a globalized economy. To date they have trained over 32,000 people! Their Entrepreneurship Program will provide college students with business training, mentorship, and access to capital and markets to help them launch micro-enterprises and become job makers in their communities.
51% of the Indian population is self-employed. But most of these businesses fall under the informal sector that do not get access to efficient financial and infrastructural support to grow impactful businesses. There are many people in India who have an entrepreneurial mindset, however, their aspirations are limited by their socio-economic backgrounds. There are currently 15 million young people joining the workforce while the economy is able to cater to only 5.5 million jobseekers each year.
Leap Skills' entrepreneurship development program aims to help youth develop entrepreneurial skills and design sustainable business models. This program trains students to identify problem statements, unlock opportunities, and access resources to create disruptive, consumer-centric, sustainable business models. It is a blend of practical workshops, intensive training sessions & access to resources.
By end of 2019 we will enroll 800+ students in training, provide long-term support to 60 aspiring entrepreneurs and launch 10 start-ups!
