Summary

Parun and Achin districts are the two hard-to-reach and marginalized districts of Nurestan and Nangarhar provinces. To empower 1000 women and girls in these districts, HRRAC has planned a 9 months free learning and skills development course which includes: basic life skills, literacy, dialogue and non-violent conflict resolution, domestic violence, vocational trainings, women entrepreneurship and child development. This project will enable women and girls to take effective part in public life.

Challenge

The war hit districts of Achin and Parun left many families without bread winners. Most families are headed by women without any skills to survive and take after their girls and families at large. The do not have basic literacy to count up to 100 frequently let alone add or subtract, multiply or divide. They cannot read the dates on medicine to know the expiry. They cannot dial or operate mobile phones let alone use internet and social media. They do not have the skills to run agri-businesses.

Solution

This project will train 1000 women & girls in both districts through its learning & skills development curriculum. HRRAC has already identified female teachers in the target districts and trained them. They will facilitate classes & train the trainees in two shifts for 3 days a week for up to 9 months. These trainings include Basic Life Skills, Literacy, IT & communication, Child development, Entrepreneurship, Vocational trainings & Dialogue and non-violent conflict resolution, peace building.

Long-Term Impact

The project will empower and enable women to take effective part in the social, economic and public life and to support their families. it will also enable girls to pursue their dreams of acquiring further education after completing the literacy course. The women beneficiaries of the project will be able to establish their own businesses during the 9 months period. Their daily income will increase and their lives will be much better and secure.
