Lifting up through learning

This course of Advanced Dress Making has taught me much about doing my job better with the innovative method of making patterns which is what I liked the most.  I have been able to make clothes that were impossible for me to make before. But now with these new ways of making patterns I could make some, they were just fine. In addition, I was promoted to dress pattern designer from just dress maker at my workplace.  I will be able to make new designs with the new way of making patterns for our clients’ tastes.  I also learned how to be more careful when making clothes, to be finer. This is why I would like to continue on this kind of learning since this field like others is in constant innovation and learning never stops.  

Thanks God and Wisconsin/Nicaragua for this course and for the ones we´re sure will continue.

Maria’s comments illustrate true need for the variety of courses that are being offered for women in Nicaragua.  Topics include jewelry, smocking, knitting and handcrafts.  The classes have been opened for women to learn and for them to find a decent way of making a living.

Two courses, bakery and Advanced Dress making began the third week of April and finished last week, third week in July. There were 23 participants in the bakery course, with both morning and afternoon classes.  22 successfully passed the class.  In the course of Advanced Dress Making class there were 14 participants from which 12 satisfactorily passed the course.

So with help from the Racine Dominican Nun’s and several individual donors, the project was able to prepare 34 women from 10 different communities in Nicaragua.

In addition, the Learning Center funds provided a course of three months on smocking to one coordinator from the community, San Antonio. She is back to her community ready to share what she learned with her local Learning Center. 

What we have found is that women have much will to learn but sometimes they don´t have the resources for transportation and so we look for help in creative ways to assist in solving this problem so they can still attend.
