The conditions at schools for visually impaired throughout South Africa are in a state of crisis. The interviews conducted with all 22 schools for the visually impaired in South Africa tell this story of neglect and denial of visually impaired children's rights to basic education and equality.
1. Scholar transport- Learners with disabilities have a constitutional right to school transport, and failure to provide it is discriminatory. 2. Access to Braille Textbooks - The settlement agreement acknowledges the right of every learner to receive all of their prescribed textbooks for every learning area at the commencement of each academic yea. 3. Support for special schools -
The project will give access to Braille textbooks to the special schools. The school transport project will help learners attend special schools. The special schools require a higher number of support and skilled staff.
