The objective of the proposed project is to aware 1000 women living in rural areas whereas to provide free legal aid to 100 poor women of district Shikarpur of Sindh province of Pakistan.
Situation with regard to women's concern is very bleak in Shikarpur due to lack of information about legal rights, prevailing laws about women, court proceedings are expenses and non availability of female advocates. a report by Sindh's women development department, a total of 1,643 cases of various types of violent acts from honour killing to custody of children, property rights and maintenance were filed by women from across the province since July last year and the practice is till continued.
The proposed project will provide free legal aid to 100 poor women litigants in the district and it would be continuity of previous efforts of the organization. The project will also provide free legal consultations and awareness among women and their male community. However, the project will strengthen Legal Empowerment Committee (DLEC) which is constituted by Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan for providing free legal aid to poor people.
The project will provide free legal aid to 100 poor women directly whereas a great number of women will get information about how to get free legal aid. The project will strengthen the District Legal Empowerment Committee (DLEC) and its members which is not functioning in the district. The project will also provide awareness among civil society organizations and women groups about free legal aid and its procedures through advocacy and awareness material.
