Poor women, especially in rural areas, struggle to get a clean piece of cloth to manage their period every month, this has aggravated their day to day misery around this basic need. Due to lack of money and gender perspective hardly any government money goes toward adolescent girls. The lack of proper menstrual health management has led to greater risks of infections.
The consequences of the COVID-19 the outbreak is felt most acutely by the marginalized, particularly women and girls facing repercussion of lockdown. They use non-traditional means such as cotton, cloth, newspapers etc. due to lack of money, hygiene and menstrual awareness with the high risk of getting infection leading to cancer, infertility and even death. Future of girl children's education and health in women-headed families has become uncertain as they do not adopt a safe practice.
The distribution of sanitary napkins and hygiene kits to 1000 women and girls will be done. Through this campaign, El Shaddai is providing a packet of 21 sanitary pads who are unable to maintain their menstrual hygiene. This program will increase awareness among women about the use of sanitary napkins and make their menstrual period healthy and safe.
Promoting menstrual sanitary pads and awareness is not only a sanitation matter; it is also an important step towards restoring their dignity and well being. The awareness and supply will awaken the women and stop using traditional and dirty resources understanding the importance of the use of sanitary napkins leading to change the women's habit.
