We are looking for positive

By Valentyna Butenko | Project Leader

Dear friends!

We are very grateful to you that in such a difficult time you continue to support our project to print books for blind children in Ukraine.

The pandemic of the Covid-19 virus has affected everyone in one way or another. Someone has been ill, someone has lost relatives. Even those who were not sick worry about loved ones. It is very difficult for large families due to the lack of personal space. Some of the children’s parents lost their jobs.

This story touched each of us. We are this story

During this reporting period, we paid the most attention to information on how to cope with those negative emotions and fears that blind children have due to constant worries that something is wrong.

Children react differently to information. They may be overly anxious in stressful situations. Not only the virus is dangerous, but also the fear that adults can infect their children with with their careless conversations.

Therefore, we tried to convey important information for children in a form accessible to them.

We published the book by Vladimir Vakulenko "The King of Viruses" and the sequel to Galina Budilova's book "Roby and the Angry in the Crown" using the principles of universal design.

This is the second book in the series, which aims to provide parents and children with the tools for ecological coexistence in quarantine conditions, reduce emotional stress and explain what post-sighted syndrome is.

These two books are therapeutic, they contain a lot of practical advice, both have been read by doctors and psychologists.

We donated sets of books to children's ophthalmological clinics, which are visited by blind and visually impaired children.

On the occasion of the International Children's Day, our readers received the book “Forward! Go!".

As part of our project, we decided to develop and publish the first encyclopedia for blind children in Ukraine. The first book of this series "Wild Animals of Ukraine" is already ready.

We are currently working on an interesting idea: an adaptation of The Fascinating Adventures of Jake the Snake and His Friends by American authors Richard and Eliza Carlisle. This book will be in both English and Ukrainian. It is great that blind students will receive a book in English. So it will be easier for them to learn a foreign language in a fun way.

Our organization continues to support blind children who study in general education schools. We adapt and print textbooks and manuals for them. And for teachers teaching aids and teaching aids in Braille, tactile books.
