Special books about special children are for every

By Valentina Butenko | Project Leader

Dear friends! Your support helps us do very important things.

Thank you very much for your support.

Special books for special children are a new direction of our project. In our country, inclusive processes for children with developmental disabilities are beginning, and for blind children as well. Being an inclusive society means looking for ways for all children to be together while learning, playing, reading (including children with disabilities).

This process in Ukraine is very difficult, in healthy people there are a lot of negative stereotypes in relation to blind children. Therefore, we began to adapt and print books not only for blind children, but also books about the special children of their lives and to introduce them to ordinary children in kindergartens and schools. Our task is to show that children who see badly are the same children, they like to play, read, communicate, be friends. They just perceive our world a little differently. We adapt and print our books in accordance with the standards of universal design. This book is for everyone.

During the reporting period we published books: the collection "Meet - Become a Friend!", Tatiana Anisimova's story "The Invisible Elephant", V. Sungurov's fairy tale "The Magic Cane" and introduced the children of the Kharkov schools to them.

At the request of our readers, we continued the series of books about our four-legged friends and adapted the book of American author Kate DiCamillo "Thanks to Winn Dixie". continues to support 6 blind children who study in regular schools. We continued to adapt textbooks in Braille for a girl, who this year moved to the second grade of a regular school.

We consider our small victory to be an improvement in the design of books using Braille's relief-dotted font. The new design of the book "Ukrainian minstrels" was highly appreciated by our readers.

Bright sets for creativity "New Year's wonders" and collections of books "Winter fairy tales" will be received by blind children of all special schools and those who study in general schools, St. Nicholas Day, New Year and Christmas.

During the reporting period, thanks to your support, we printed over 150 books on universal design standards for blind children and over 200 copies of books on the life of blind children.

You make the world for blind children of Ukraine more visible and joyful!
