Our contribution to the fight against COVID-19

By Valentyna Butenko | Project Leader

Dear friends!

Your support is very important to us at such a difficult time for all of us!

We understand how psychologically and financially difficult many of you are, so we are sincerely grateful to you for supporting our project.

Thanks to your charitable contributions, blind children in Ukraine receive books printed according to the principles of universal design.

They are looking forward to them, writing to us whatever books they would like to read.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, we received a proposal to adapt Helen Patuk's book "You Are My Hero" according to the principles of universal design. This book was produced as part of the Interdepartmental Standing Committee Reference Group Project on Mental Health and Psychosocial Emergency Support. In the creation of this book, over 1,700 children, parents, guardians and teachers from around the world have devoted time to sharing their experiences in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This book is written for children and their parents and tells in a fabulous way how you can protect yourself from coronavirus infection. The heroes of the book, the girl Sarah and the dragon Ario, teach children what rules they must follow in order not to get infected with the coronavirus, how to cope with fear and sadness. The book was received by over 100 families raising children with severe visual impairments from different regions of Ukraine. And we look forward to the sequel to Action for Heroes (coming soon), which offers support in addressing COVID-19 topics, helping children cope with feelings and emotions

Our books are in demand not only in Ukraine. We made new friends, the Ukrainian diaspora in Hungary, and thanks to this, a new book, a collection of fairy tales by contemporary Ukrainian writers "Divokray", appeared.

An even more important event for us took place during the reporting period. We became partners of the open public library of books for the blind "Tochka" in Kharkov. All the books we have adapted and printed

Books printed with universal design principles have become even more accessible to people with visual impairments.

Our organization continues to support blind children who study in general education schools. We adapt and print textbooks and manuals for them.

During the reporting period, we published books: "My hero is you", G. Kasdepke "Caution", collection of fairy tales "Divocrai", "Dragons of the Autumn Sun",

Labyrinth of Bones is the first book in the 39 Keys inter-author adventure novel series, which was founded by Rick Riordan,«Sun family», « Colored fables» .
