Dear friends!
We are very grateful to you for supporting our project to print books for blind children in such a difficult time for Ukraine. Political instability and skyrocketing prices for electricity and other utilities, paper and office equipment make our work very difficult. But we continue to work steadily.
In October, our team worked most of the time on adapting textbooks for blind children who study with inclusive programs in mainstream schools. It turned out that not all families learned about the possibility of adapting textbooks. And some blind children in rural schools were taught without textbooks by ear, orally. Now we are correcting this unpleasant situation. Moms write that it is impossible to describe the joy of children when they received their first textbooks.
In November, we decided to focus on adapting cognitive literature for blind children: “What the Universe Hides” (a collection of 3 books about such interesting phenomena as gravity, echolocation and others) by Uliana Lumei, “Save me, they force me to read!” (collection of stories about how books are created, interesting facts about books), "The Story of the Old Clown"
(on the history of Ukraine) Vsevolod Nestaiko.
December was devoted to the preparation of New Year's gifts for the project. More than 100 children from different parts of Ukraine received New Year and Christmas stories as a gift: "The Secret Life of St. Nicholas" by Galina Budilova, the 3rd book of a collection of winter tales "Winter poured snowflakes on her palms", sets for creativity "New Year's cards with their own hands", " Ice Cream Miracles by Vitalia Savchenko, Snowsaurus and the Snow Witch by Tom Fletcher.
In support of the printing of books in Braille, we initiated the action "We wrote to the blind children of Ukraine." Ukrainian writers offered their books free of charge for adaptation and printing for blind children.
And also our partners from the Ukrainian diaspora abroad took the initiative of cooperation. Now we are preparing for adaptation the book by Anna Demina (Poland) “Legends from Travels”, which will introduce blind children to the most beautiful places in Europe.
Almost ready for print is Yelena Skulatova's book "Abandoned Animals Zoo" and the book for teenagers by Polish authors Grzegorz Kasdepke and Barbara Kosmowska "The Big Bang", which raises the problem of bullying among teenagers in schools, which is very important for blind children.
Once again many thanks for your support.
