Celebrating the Season of Togetherness

By Zsofia Racz | Director of Corporate and International Relations

Celebrating the Season of Togetherness with Our Senior Community

This December, we organized a special Christmas celebration dedicated to bringing joy and companionship to our elderly community. It was a heartwarming gathering where we welcomed over 50 guests, including our dedicated senior volunteers, lonely elderly individuals, and their volunteer friends who support them through our Friends of the Elderly program.

For many of our beneficiaries, the holiday season can be a time of isolation, making this event a crucial opportunity to experience a sense of belonging. The program was designed to capture the magic of the season, featuring performances by opera singers, a touching presentation by school children, and a professional storyteller who captivated the audience with tales focusing on the holiday spirit.

Thanks to the generous support of GlobalGiving donors and other fundraising projects, we were able to serve a delicious festive lunch to all our seniors and volunteers. Sharing a warm meal together created an atmosphere of family and celebration that many of our guests rarely experience.

A highlight of the event was the presence of a national radio station. They created special recordings and conducted interviews with our elderly-volunteer pairs. These conversations provided a moving platform for them to share their stories and express how much it means to be part of a program where volunteers visit isolated elderly people, fostering deep personal bonds.

At the heart of this celebration was our commitment to ensuring that no elderly person feels forgotten during the holidays. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of community, intergenerational connection, and shared joy.
