In Kenya today, the transition rate from primary to high schools is at an all time low. Only 50% of pupils completing standard 8th grade proceed to secondary school majorly due to lack of school fees. This results in early marriages, crime, unwanted pregnancy and inequality that ends up in abject poverty.
We are thrilled that our programs are able to provide hope for future in the community as we are able to provide school fees to our kids to further their studies in high school and colleges. Thanks to our various projects being funded by the American Foundation for Children with AIDS in this region, we are able table this course.
The picture attached is one of the children called Mary. She was born out of wedlock and does not know her father. Her mother is HIV/AIDs positive, without no source of income. She is a bright girl that had her hopes lost when school fees were a big problem. She is one of our girls that joined high school this year. She is very happy that her dream is still valid and that education will be an equalizer in her case.
Because of garden project, we were able to use a portion of money to add to her monthly support funds to pay for her school fees. It's a true story that we could have not done this without the support the American Foundation for Children with AIDS working with us ever the years to ensure that our garden is thriving all year round.
The team here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS thanks you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in Africa. If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
