Lainey Dreams of Being a Teacher

By Frankline | Partner in Africa

Lainey was born in 2007 in a village called Ombeyi. She was born out of wedlock and does not know her father. Her mother is HIV/AIDS positive and without any source of income. She is a bright girl who had her hopes nearly shattered when school fees became a major challenge.

In 2021, we welcomed Lainey into Restoring Hopes Ministry Children’s Home. It was a turning point in her life - a chance for her to dream again. Since then, she has grown into a focused and determined young girl. She is currently in high school, where she continues to shine academically and socially.

Thanks to the generous support from her sponsor and AFCA, Lainey is able to attend school without the constant worry of being sent home for lack of fees. Her face lights up when she talks about her favorite subjects, and she proudly shares her dream of becoming a teacher someday - a dream that grows stronger with each passing school term.  We are committed to walking with her every step of the way, ensuring she has everything she needs to succeed. Outside the classroom, Lainey enjoys playing volleyball. It’s not just a hobby for her - it’s a way to build friendships, boost her confidence, and stay active.

We are proud of the progress Lainey has made so far. Her story is one of resilience, hope, and transformation. With continued support and encouragement, we are confident that Lainey will one day stand in front of a classroom as a teacher, inspiring young minds just like hers. Truly, education is the only tool available to fight poverty and graduate from poverty.  Thank you for walking through this noble cause with us, we could not have helped Lainey to see the four corners of the high school classroom without your support. Together we are fighting poverty in this part of the world.

The team here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS thanks you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in Africa.  If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
