Miriam is 14 and is part of a family of five, including her father, mother and two sisters. At first glance you would think that's wonderful. Most of the children in our program are orphans living with elderly grandparents. Miriam is blessed with a family!
When you look closer, you find Miriam and her mother are the only family members infected with HIV. Her parents are discordant, making the father unsupportives of his wife and daughter. They had a small piece of land which he sold in 2013, leaving them stranded and homeless. How does a mother move forward to help herself and her daughter in this situation?
Miriam and her mother are blessed by donors like yourself. They are able to attend the clinic together, and Miriam is enrolled in school. She is very active in her support group and her drug adherence is satisfactory. During home visits, Miriam is found playing with other children in the community. She supports the family in fetching water, making meals and doing garden work.
Your generosity has made this new life possible for Miriam. She would not be thriving without medicine, school fees, pads and her support group. You have donated much more than money, you have given hope!
