Despite the efforts made so far, the problems with waste continue to persist in Natitingou. The municipality doesn’t know what to do and for the moment has given the task of dealing with the waste to the associations. These associations do what they can to bring the waste to the clustering points where they are often burned. It’s necessary explain that these clustering points are inside the city now, so they are dangerous both for people health and for the environment.
For these reasons an eco center is considered essential. In October our project managers went to Natitingou, where they could see that the construction of the eco center is proceeding well.
The eco-center will not only provide respect for the environment but also a job for the poorest people. This structure is divided in different parts: a waste sorting area, a garbage washing space, a bio digester for the production of the bio gas according to the model of the Songhai Center of Porto Nuovo.
In addition to the construction of the eco-center we are continuing our awareness raising project both with the old schools and with the new ones.
We are also carrying on our door-to-door waste collection. To make the activity easier we bought a small truck, but in view of the opening of the eco center we hope to be able to buy another one.
Finally, before starting the plastic recycling business, we hope to secure the eco-center by purchasing a gate.
