FUNDXUB continues to advance in the support and improvement of the quality of life of the elderly in the Dominican Republic. Through this project that we develop from the FUNDXUB Foundation with the support of the Funcomas Foundation, our concern for the well-being of the elderly and those who are in the process of aging is expressed. Most people living in poverty do not have the facility to prepare for life as an older adult, hence many older people who do not have the support of a stable socioeconomic context will have great difficulty living in a dignified manner.

Especially in this time of pandemic, with all the consequences of COVID-19, our elders have been the most affected, not only in terms of physical health, but also economically and psychologically.

Our mission with this initiative is not only to preserve the physical integrity of the elderly in vulnerable conditions, but also to support those who live in conditions of poverty in various aspects: 1) covering their food needs, 2) needing medicines and articles health, 3) providing them with training and guidance to live better in their old age and 4) providing them with tools to protect themselves from the Covid 19 virus.

In this sense, we have developed a series of programs that are supported by the donations received and based on results and proof of completion are presented below.

1. Food and livelihood program for the elderly.

During the October-December 2022 quarter, we held 3 meetings through which more than 60 older people benefited from food baskets and solidarity vouchers to help support the economic burden they live.

This was possible, thanks to the support of a group of volunteers. These events were held in the neighborhoods of Manresa Altagracia, Luz Consuelo Sur and other sectors of the National District.
Other events were also held, such as:

  • • Organization of a community Christmas breakfast.
  • • Participation in talks and training events.
  • • Awareness talk on Gender Violence.

2. Medicine and health supplies supplement program.

We have identified cases of older adults with health complications who do not have the financial resources or the necessary support to cover their monthly medication burden.

Most of them do not even have health insurance that reduces their situation.

For this reason, we collect or buy as much medicine as possible each month and distribute it starting with the most serious cases.

3. Education program for the elderly.

We developed awareness talks on the care of the elderly to live with well-being, which were complemented with prevention strategies for Covid-19-

4. Covid-19 Protection and Prevention Program Delivered

40 packages with protection and prevention equipment were delivered. Each delivery brings with it a package of masks, disinfectant gel, alcohol, wet towels, surface disinfectant and waterproof gloves.

The purpose is to supply more and more elderly people with these types of items on a monthly basis, to avoid contagion, avoid human losses and reduce the spread of the virus.

Although we have not yet reached our goal, we have come a long way with this idea and more than 200 elderly have benefited.

I invite you to continue supporting us and collaborating with the safety and well-being of this population that is so vulnerable at this time.

We are extremely grateful to all the noble souls who have promoted this project, doing their bit to make it a reality.

Thank you so much everyone.
