The Relay for Life is the solidarity movement of the Foundation against Cancer that: - Brings together a town or neighbourhood in the fight against cancer; - Celebrates and honours Fighters - people fighting and surviving cancer; - Raises money through fundraising activities and/or an event. Volunteers across the country organise a variety of actions throughout the year, culminating in a major 24-hour event during which teams relay by walking, running or cycling.
Cancer incidence is on the rise, putting increasing pressure on the health care system and impacting more families every year. The psychological and social impact of cancer is underestimated and the available preventative measures are insufficient. In Belgium, more than 75.000 people are diagnosed with cancer annually.
By raising funds to execute the mission of the Foundation against Cancer. Throughout this project we try to create awareness of the importance of exercise, healthy eating and prevention. In order to achieve this, we motivate participants to walk, run or cycle. During the event, we provide sunscreen and our events are smoke-free. People with cancer and their loved ones are the focal point of our event as we aim to form a community around them.
We aim to provide annual donations to research projects amounting to 26.000.000 euros to better understand en find cures for cancer. Additionally, we aim to reduce cancer incidence by organising annual prevention campaigns. Lastly, we provide aid to people with cancer and their support system in different ways (social, professional, etc.).
