We have been working to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people and to promote their full inclusion in society. To achieve this, we provide direct support to the community through legal and psychological support, raise awareness about the challenges faced by them in Russia, and advocate for their rights at the national and international levels.
In 2022, the maximum number of convictions under the law "Prohibition of LGBTQ+ propaganda among minors" was issued . At the end of the year, a general law on the "Prohibition of propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships" was passed. Now any mention of LGBTQ+ in a positive or neutral context can lead to huge fines. In 2023, the State Duma passed a "Trans*transition ban" law that bans not only medical intervention but also the adoption of children by trans* people.
The situation of LGBTQ+ people is becoming more and more threatening every year. That is why we continue and making wider our work: support individual LGBTQ+ people by providing them with the help of psychologists and lawyers; form a positive legal practice - even if it becomes more and more difficult to do; record violations of the rights of LGBTQ+ people, and drawing attention to it.
Our work helps LGBTQ+ people have been gaining strength and capacity: in terms of fighting homo- and transphobia, networks of support, accessibility to professional aid, and even in terms of acceptance in wider circles of society. Our studies also show that LGBTQ+ people thanks to our work are becoming more open, more interested in what LGBTQ+ organizations have to say, and less prone to limit themselves to LGBTQ-exclusive spaces.
