Keep calm and Coming Out: LGBTQ+ support in Russia

The second half of 2024 was the time for ComingOut to keep up with the good work under ever increasing pressure from the state. Police raids, administrative and criminal prosecutions, you name it, all of it is unfolding on the ground in Russia and requires our participation. 

Speaking of our participation Russian queer people can still rely on, since the beginning of July we have conducted 1044 psychological consultations, >219 legal consultations, and 90 career consultations. Receiving such help free of cost, community members find much-needed predictability and get a chance to plan other aspects of their lives. 

Here is one of our favorite feedbacks we received in the past months from our beneficiaries:

Thank you for your hard work! I can be afraid to go to professionals and talk about my problems openly, because I am afraid of facing rejection, homophobia.... It is very valuable that there is an opportunity to seek help from people who are not judgmental and understand the problems faced by LGBTQ+ people. Special thanks to the psychologist Semyon who counseled me! He really helped a lot during a difficult period for me

Following up on our previous report, 30th November 2024 marks a year since the Supreme Court decision on ‘LGBT movement being extremist’. As you can imagine, this decision brought only more fear into the lives of thousands of queer people in Russia. 

And that is why the support of our donors is as meaningful as ever. Thanks to the generous support of our private donors, we are now managing to cover the growing demand for our legal support.
