 From June to September 2025, Japan Heart continued its mission to provide essential medical care in Myanmar, focusing on areas with limited healthcare access. Despite ongoing challenges, our dedicated team delivered vital medical services, including emergency care, pediatric support, and community health initiatives. This report highlights key activities and achievements during this period.

Key Updates & Achievements

1. Child Development Center, “Dream Train” Activities (Jun./ Jul./ Aug.)

 In June, Dream Train welcomed 15 new children, marking the start of a new academic year. Despite the rainy season, children attended school in their uniforms, showcasing their pride and enthusiasm. The facility also organized an annual field trip to the National Race Village, where children learned about Myanmar's diverse cultures and traditions. This experience fostered a sense of unity and cultural appreciation among the children.

 In July, Dream Train hosted its third educational game tournament, featuring activities like tangram puzzles, block building, and chess. These activities aimed to develop children's creativity, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning. The event also encouraged teamwork and communication, contributing to the holistic development of the children.

 In August, Dream Train organized a cultural exchange event where children shared their traditions, languages, and customs. This celebration of cultural diversity promoted mutual respect and understanding among the children, fostering an inclusive and supportive community environment.

2. Advancing Specialized Medical Care and Preparing for the Restart of Pediatric Liver Transplantation (July 30, 2025)

 Japan Heart continues to advance specialized medical care in Myanmar, focusing on complex pediatric diseases such as liver disorders.

In July 2025, the team collaborated with local doctors to strengthen expertise and improve treatment quality in specialized fields.

Despite ongoing social and logistical challenges, healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, and technicians are doing their utmost to deliver advanced care in limited settings.

Importantly, preparations are underway for the long-awaited restart of pediatric living-donor liver transplantation, suspended in recent years due to the country’s unstable conditions.

This effort reflects Japan Heart’s unwavering mission to provide life-saving medical care under any circumstance and marks a hopeful step toward rebuilding Myanmar’s capacity for advanced medical treatment.

3. Rebuilding Community Health Six Months After the Earthquake (September 27, 2025)

 Six months after the devastating earthquake in March 2025, recovery efforts continue across affected regions. 

 Japan Heart has been strengthening community health programs to support both physical and mental recovery for residents. To address ongoing challenges such as malnutrition and poor sanitation in temporary living environments, the team conducted health checkups, vaccination programs, and hygiene and nutrition education. In collaboration with local healthcare workers, efforts also focused on rebuilding a resilient community health system capable of responding to future emergencies.

 These initiatives represent an essential step toward restoring normal life and long-term health stability in earthquake-affected areas.

Upcoming Goals

 Japan Heart will continue to uphold its mission “To deliver healthcare to medically-isolated areas” with a renewed determination to bring life-saving care to those most in need.

• Sustain Healthcare Amid Crisis: Even as Myanmar faces the dual challenges of natural disasters and ongoing social instability, we remain committed to ensuring that “medical care never stops.” Our focus will be on supporting patients and communities who continue to carry heavy economic and emotional burdens.
• Expand Medical Outreach: Increase the reach of mobile clinics to remote areas, providing essential healthcare to underserved populations who have limited access to medical services.
• Rebuild Hope and Capacity: Strengthen partnerships with local healthcare workers and nurture future medical leaders, ensuring that care can continue sustainably within Myanmar.

Through these efforts, Japan Heart will stand by the people of Myanmar bringing not only treatment but also hope, resilience, and dignity to every life we touch.

This report highlights Japan Heart’s activities in Myanmar during April and May, focusing on our medical support efforts after Myanmar’s earthquake and the work of our child development center, “Dream Train”.

Key Updates and Achievement

1. The Wachet Charity Hospital – Recovery After Earthquake

• Hospital Operations Resume

Following the devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake near Mandalay on March 28 (JST), the Wachet Charity Hospital sustained serious structural damage and suspended operations. Outdoor medical care resumed in April, and in May, local authorities granted re-entry for assessments.

• Surgical Services Restarted

In June, the hospital resumed inpatient admissions and surgeries for conditions such as inguinal hernias and tumors. Full-scale medical support is once again underway, providing critical care for those in need.

2. Dream Train Activities – April

• New Admissions & Rising Needs

15 new children joined Dream Train in April. Due to ongoing instability, many children in rural areas are unable to continue schooling, leading to a significant increase in admission requests. The need for child welfare support continues to grow, especially in the aftermath of the earthquake.

• Team Toss Rugby Workshop & Spiritual Retreat

Team Toss visited again this year, hosting an engaging rugby workshop that brought smiles and energy to the children. During the Thingyan holiday, 24 boys temporarily ordained as novice monks, while several girls participated in meditation practice—offering them a rare opportunity for self-reflection and spiritual growth.

3. Dream Train Activities – May

• Study Tour to Japan

Seven children studying Japanese joined a life-changing study tour to Japan, visiting schools, companies, and cultural sites. They presented their experiences and dreams in Japanese to supporters, leaving a heartfelt impression on all who attended.

• Annual Award Ceremony

Outstanding teams and individuals were recognized for achievements in education, sports, cleaning, and more. Children also showcased performances and helped organize the event, highlighting their growth in confidence and leadership.

Upcoming Goals

• Restoring Full Operations at Wachet Charity Hospital

Moving forward, we plan to gradually increase the number of inpatient admissions. In addition, we aim to resume outpatient services and begin providing treatment for surgical patients identified during mobile medical missions conducted as part of our disaster relief activities.
