Finally, Arina Can Embrace Her Little Brother

By Iana Dashkovska | Project Leader

Dear friends,

Thank you for being there for children who need treatment for serious diseases in wartime Ukraine.

The story of Arina, a little girl from Mykolaiv whom you see in the picture, is a testament to your kindness and generosity. Due to her complicated cancer diagnosis, she could not receive the necessary treatment in her hometown, which is near the frontline. Since April of last year, she has been receiving care at the Institute of Cancer in Kyiv, accompanied by her grandmother. Her mother was unable to be by her side due to pregnancy and the risks associated with chemotherapy. Arina’s stepfather has been defending our country since the invasion began.

Arina’s journey through treatment was challenging, marked by severe reactions to chemotherapy and bouts of uncontrolled aggression. This situation made psychological support crucial for her and her family. Despite these hardships, Arina found joy between treatment cycles, engaging in creative activities and playing with other children at the hospital, especially the little ones. Her resilience and courage were rewarded in February when she was able to return home, her dream of embracing her 5-month-old brother finally realized. Arina received our traditional medal for bravery upon completing her treatment.

Your support helps provide the hospital, where Arina and many other children like her are treated, with essential medical supplies, psychological support, rehabilitation, and other critical resources. Thank you for your compassion!
