Imagine Being a Teenager Again...

Teenager on treatment in Ukraine
Teenager on treatment in Ukraine

Dear friends,

Think back to your teenage years—the big dreams, the insecurities, the search for confidence and belonging. Now, imagine facing all of that while battling cancer in the middle of a full-scale war.

Today, I want to share the story of a 13-year-old boy—we’ll call him Sasha to protect his privacy—who is now on cancer treatment in Ukraine. He and his family lived in agonizing uncertainty, waiting for an exact diagnosis. The fear, the not-knowing, took a toll on him. He felt lost, overwhelmed. On top of his illness, Sasha struggles with low self-esteem because of his weight. He’s been bullied at school, and over time, he started to withdraw—not just from classmates, but from life itself. Some days, he even resisted the very treatment that could save him.

But thanks to you, Sasha isn’t alone. Alongside his medical care, our psychological team is working with him and his mom, helping them navigate this difficult treatment journey. His support plan is tailored to his needs and includes:

  • Psychoeducation: helping Sasha and his mom understand the emotional impact of his diagnosis and why sticking with treatment matters.
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy: addressing his fears, working on his self-image, and helping him rebuild confidence.
  • Emotional support: engaging in art therapy and mindfulness techniques to process emotions and find moments of joy.
  • Social reintegration: giving him tools to stand up to bullying and encouraging positive social interactions.
  • Family therapy: ensuring his mom can support him with the right balance of care and independence.

Your generosity makes this possible. By donating today, you’re giving Sasha—and so many kids like him in Ukraine—the medical and psychological support they need. Thank you!
