Dear Friends,
As the new year begins, even in the hardest moments, we return to what motivates us and gives our lives meaning. One such reminder is Vasyl’s story, how perseverance, together with your support, helped him reach his 90 degrees.
We have known Vasyl since he was a child. He survived osteosarcoma and underwent complex surgeries, including the installation and lengthening of a bone prosthesis. Years of rehabilitation followed, along with hard work to learn to walk without pain. His most recent surgery gave him a crucial opportunity: to receive a permanent prosthesis and return to an active life.
Throughout the years, Zaporuka's physical therapists, Tetiana and Volodymyr, have supported Vasyl at every stage and witnessed his entire journey: from a small boy to a determined young man.
The latest phase of rehabilitation was particularly challenging. Before surgery, his knee could bend only to 70-75 degrees. Vasyl set a clear goal: to reach 90 degrees. Achieving this required daily, systematic effort, repetitive exercises, constant monitoring, and perseverance.
Vasyl followed every recommendation without excuses, even when pain or fluid buildup in his leg forced temporary pauses. His determination never wavered.
Eventually, Vasyl reached his goal. During one session, the team measured the long-awaited 90 degrees of knee flexion. It was an emotional milestone for Vasyl, for his mother, and for his physical therapist Volodymyr, who recalls:
"I could see it clearly in his eyes. He was thinking: I will do everything I can to bend my knee even more."
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support helps children like Vasyl regain strength, mobility, and confidence in their future. We wish that this new year each of you reaches your own 90 degrees, whatever that may be.
