Your donation saved many little Babies in NICU

By Ahmed Raza | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Congratulations! You have helped to save many little babies fighting for life in the NICU, yet amid a frightening pandemic. Thank you for your generous support to our project Life-saving treatment of babies in NICU. Here's the quarterly progress report of the project.

All the babies delivered at our hospital Al-Mustafa Medical Centre are kept under observation in the NICU for 2 to 4 hours. Most of the babies that are admitted and are given treatment are preterm i-e having gestational age less than 34 weeks or those who have low-birth-weight i-e birth-weight less than 1500 Grams. These two are the most common causes of infant mortality in Pakistan. We also provide treatment at Al-Mustafa's NICU for other conditions which require Neonatal Consultation like Severe Hyperbilirubinemia, Infants of Diabetic Mothers, Severe Intrauterine Growth Restriction, Severe Hypoxia, Respiratory Distress requiring a ventilator etc. Our Infant Mortality rate is very low as compared to other healthcare facilities in the vicinity.

The total number of births at Al-Mustafa Medical centre from April 2020 to July 2020 was 237. Out of 237, 14 infants were born with low-birth-rate i-e birth-weight less than 1500 Grams and 14 babies were given treatment for respiratory distress on Infant Ventilator.

Also, as you are aware that infants are the most delicate of the creatures. Their immunity is at lowest at the time of birth and thus require extra care even in normal conditions. Therefore, the challenge is dual in times like these when a deadly pandemic is out there. The safety and well-being of the babies in NICU and our staff have been our highest priority. We prioritized measures related to the monitoring, testing, treatment and delivery of medical devices and protective equipment to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

We sincerely hope that you will continue to support us in our mission to provide life-saving treatment for these precious babies in NICU with your zakat and other alms.

Stay safe, stay blessed.
