The Ongoing Journey of LSBE at our Schools

By Ambreen Abdul Karim | Executive Specialist

As the sun rose on a new academic year, Zindagi Trust’s Life Skills Based Education (LSBE)
program began another inspiring journey. The 2024-2025 academic year ushered in a
period of growth, learning, and new possibilities. With renewed energy, both teachers and
students were ready to embark on this transformative adventure, equipping young minds
with essential life skills that would help them navigate the challenges of the real world.

Laying the Foundation for Success: Teacher Training and Orientation
The story of this academic year began in August, when Zindagi Trust organized
comprehensive training sessions for its dedicated teachers. These sessions were designed
to guide educators through the LSBE curriculum, ensuring they felt confident and prepared
to bring life-changing lessons into their classrooms.
During these sessions, teachers explored the heart of the curriculum—learning about its
structure, teaching methods, and how to track student progress. They were introduced to a
special “Progression Grid” that showed how different life skills interconnected, helping
students grow in every aspect of their development. The sessions were more than just a
training exercise; they emphasized the continuous growth of teachers themselves, inspiring
them to reflect on their roles as mentors.
At the same time, a School-Wide Orientation was held across both Zindagi Trust schools.
Teachers came together to explore the deeper significance of LSBE, understanding how
these lessons would help students prepare for real-life situations. The orientation
reminded everyone that LSBE wasn’t just a subject—it was a way to shape young lives,
build confidence and create a safe space for learning.

A New Chapter Begins: The Curriculum Rollout
With teachers well-prepared and inspired, it was time for the students to step into their
LSBE journey. For the first time, the curriculum for Grades 1 and 2 will be fully
implemented, marking a significant milestone for Zindagi Trust. The youngest learners
entered their classrooms eager to learn about important concepts like emotions, making
choices, and taking care of their personal hygiene. These early lessons are laying the
foundation for lifelong skills that will guide our students through the complexities of life.
Meanwhile, students in Grades 3 to 8 began the pilot phase of the newly developed LSBE
curriculum. This is an exciting phase filled with exploration and feedback. Students have
been eager to engage with new topics, while teachers are gathering insights to further
refine the program, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of every learner.

A World of Learning: Curriculum Breakdown (August - October)
As the year unfolds, the LSBE curriculum is opening up a world of learning for students
across different grade levels. Each grade has been exploring topics carefully tailored to
their age and development, creating a rich and meaningful experience.
Grade 1 students discovered the joy of learning about their personal likes and dislikes,
greetings, and the importance of hygiene. They explored basic emotions, understanding
how feelings shape their daily lives.
Grade 2 took these lessons further by diving into the complexities of emotions and
understanding strengths and weaknesses. They also began developing a sense of daily
routines, helping them build responsibility and self-awareness.
Grade 3 students explored the important role of family, learned to balance school life, and
practiced mindfulness to manage their emotions. They even learned about kitchen safety, a
valuable skill for everyday life.
Grade 4 took a closer look at family dynamics, hobbies, and cooking simple meals, while
also learning to regulate unpleasant emotions.
Grade 5 students began discussing personal values, puberty, and the emotional changes
that come with growing up. Together, they broke down myths and stigmas surrounding
menstruation, creating an open and supportive environment for all students.
Grade 6 focused on self-image, stress management, and menstrual hygiene, empowering
students to build confidence and maintain their well-being.
Grade 7 introduced students to the power of self-discipline and goal setting, helping them
understand how their habits shape their future.
Grade 8 explored deeper topics like diversity, globalization, and mental health,
encouraging students to think critically and understand their place in the world. They were
also introduced to Design Thinking, a process that inspired them to creatively solve
problems in their communities.

Learning Through Experience: The Power of Practical Lessons
While theory played an important role in LSBE, practical learning truly brought these life
skills to life. In Grade 4, students rolled up their sleeves and learned how to cook simple
meals. These classes were more than just about cooking—they taught students
responsibility, teamwork and safety in the kitchen.

In Grade 8, students embraced the concept of Design Thinking, a creative approach to
solving real-world problems. They were encouraged to identify challenges in their
community and come up with innovative solutions. This hands-on experience empowered
them to think outside the box and make a positive impact on the world around them.

Looking to the Future: A Bright Path Ahead
As the new academic term progresses, the journey of LSBE continues with excitement and
hope. The curriculum rollout and focus on practical learning ensure that Zindagi Trust’s
students are not only learning in the classroom but are also developing the tools they need
to thrive in life.
At Zindagi Trust, we believe that education is more than just academics—it’s about shaping
the future. As we look ahead, we remain committed to equipping our students with the
knowledge, skills, and values they need to face the world with confidence. With each new
term, the journey continues, filled with growth, discovery, and the promise of a brighter
tomorrow.
