After careful screening, investigation, and successful documentation, Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research is pleased to announce the rollout of the first batch of its Reintegration Project, Hope Through Skills, in Edo State, Nigeria. This project supports returned migrants and victims of human trafficking by helping them rebuild their lives through practical skills and reliable income opportunities.
Five beneficiaries have been selected and fully documented for this first phase. They will begin their skills training in January 2026, marking an important step toward long-term recovery, independence, and social inclusion.
Human trafficking and unsafe migration continue to harm societies worldwide. The International Labour Organization estimates that over 27 million people are trapped in forced labour and trafficking globally, with women and girls making up a large proportion. These crimes break families, deepen poverty, increase violence, and place heavy pressure on health and social systems. Without proper support, many returnees face trauma and lack of income, which increases the risk of re-trafficking and crime.
Nigeria remains one of the countries most affected by irregular migration and human trafficking. Thousands of young people attempt dangerous migration routes each year in search of work. Many return with injuries, emotional distress, and no means to survive. Nigeria is a source, transit, and destination country for trafficking, especially affecting women and girls. These challenges slow development and worsen inequality.
Edo State has long been a hotspot for these issues. Communities have lost productive youth, families have been broken, and local economies have suffered. Without focused reintegration support, many returnees struggle to start again.

She was recommended by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Edo State.
Project Support
During training, beneficiaries will receive stipends to support basic needs. After graduation, and if funding is available, they will also be supported with startup kits or small grants to help them begin their businesses.
As the beneficiaries begin their training in January 2026, we will continue to share updates on their progress and impact.
