As part of the alliances we have in CAPTAR, in June we delivered food and medical equipment provided by Juntos Somos Maíz A.C. along with donors from El Paso Texas.
On June 14, the CAPTAR team traveled to the city of Chihuahua to load food, medical equipment and milk to be transported to the municipality of Batopilas Chihuahua, one of the municipalities that stand out nationally for its high degree of marginalization and high food shortages and access to basic services, 80% of the population is of the Raramuri ethnic group.
On June 15, together with the Unidos Somos Maíz A.C. team, we traveled 7 hours from the capital to the municipal capital of Batopilas. There, together with personnel from the municipal administration, we organized the deliveries to be carried out in two communities in the municipality.
On June 16, we visited the community of El Cuervo, a community located approximately 2 hours from the municipal capital on dirt roads with difficult access; this community has a small elementary school and a small clinic whose supplies are not sufficient for the population. In this community we delivered approximately 240 groceries with grains, pastas and basic canned goods, as well as a box of milk.
June 17 we visited the community of Santa Rita located approximately 2 hours from the municipal capital. In this community there is a small school with 2 classrooms that currently does not have a teacher due to the inaccessibility of the community, due to this most of the children do not have access to basic education, the closest health center to which they have access is located in the municipal capital.
A total of 240 families from this and neighboring communities benefited from this project, who depend heavily on this type of support to cover their basic needs such as food and access to drinking water.
In these communities, the lack of water causes many children to suffer from malnutrition, which often leads to death. To get water they walk 5 hours and carry it in buckets on their shoulders. To get water they walk 5 hours and carry it in buckets on their shoulders.
By joining efforts we will be able to provide them with water to drink. unite and support these communities.
