With your generous support 50 Girls Begin the School Year with Hope, Dignity, and the Tools to Learn
For many girls in Ethiopia, going to school is still far from guaranteed. In disadvantaged communities, deeply rooted social and economic pressures can place girls’ education behind household responsibilities, early marriage, and other family priorities. Some girls are expected to remain at home, helping with domestic work and supporting their mothers, rather than having the opportunity to learn and build their own future.
Through the Improve Girls’ Education in Ethiopia project, MHO is helping remove some of the practical barriers that prevent vulnerable girls from attending and remaining in school. During this reporting period, 50 girls from poor and disadvantaged families received essential educational materials and related support, made possible through generous contributions from GlobalGiving individual and corporate partners, complemented by MHO resources. Support included school supplies and clothing, educational assistance, female hygiene materials, noon-meal support, and transportation subsidies. These interventions enabled girls to return to school better prepared, with greater dignity and the basic resources needed to participate alongside their classmates.
The distribution of educational materials and related support is continuing throughout September as MHO reaches additional girls, including those living in disadvantaged and rural communities. The project is about more than school supplies. By reducing financial and practical barriers, it helps girls attend school more regularly, reduces the pressure created by household responsibilities, and strengthens their opportunity to remain in education. Supporting girls also contributes to the wellbeing of their families through improved knowledge of health, nutrition, and education.
Behind every one of these 50 girls is a future that deserves a chance. Your support has helped these girls begin the school year with greater confidence, dignity, and hope. MHO is deeply grateful to the GlobalGiving community for standing with vulnerable girls and helping turn access to education into a real opportunity for a brighter future.
Note: All girls and children pictured in this report are real beneficiaries of MHO’s intervention. Their images directly represent the children whose lives have been supported through this program, made possible by the continued generosity of our donors.
