Summary

Young children around our country are going to school everyday in places where music no longer fills the air. In some. the K-3 music programs have disappeared- exactly at the time when music profoundly shapes young hearts and minds! Please help us give children the strengths, abilities, passion and confidence that music bestows when you contribute to GITC. Let's build music a home in preschools and K-3 classrooms where teachers can lead singing for learning every day, in Mississippi and beyond!

Challenge

Mobile, Alabama is a large metropolitan area with great need for music integration in their classrooms. Affected by weather and the economy, this community is struggling to provide music for its young children. The poverty rate in the area where we will serve if funded is high- and teachers in 19 Head Start locations all want to help their young students learn through music. Our site in Mira Mesa serves 600 children from the middle and working class community near the Mira Mar Air Force base.

Solution

This project will provide instruments, teacher training, early childhood musical materials, ukuleles and shakers so the 3-6 year olds in this program can get a better start in learning and life.

Long-Term Impact

The long term effects of making music when started in childhood are profound and influence everything from a child's ability to read and speak to think logically. For in depth reading on this subject, please visit http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/10/early-music-lessons-have-longtime-benefits/
