We help 500 vulnerable households (290 women, 210 men) in the territory of Masisi, North-Kivu, DRC, by providing seeds (vegetables, soy), small business funds and training in small-agriculture and income-generating activities. Through our program, families access practical support on site, build resilient livelihoods and improve food security in a conflict-affected region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In the territory of Masisi, North-Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, years of armed conflict and volcanic risk have ravaged livelihoods, displaced families and destroyed agricultural capacity. More than 70 % of households live below the extreme-poverty line. Food insecurity is rampant and vulnerable women, widows, orphans and people living with disabilities struggle daily for survival. Without income or skills, entire families risk being trapped in hunger and dependency.
We provide 500 households with vegetable & soy seeds, tools and small business start-funds. We train them in sustainable small-agriculture, business-management and support the formation and re-energising of 20 women-income groups (AVEC). Monitoring and technical support ensure that families progress - from seed to harvest, from micro-business to reliable income. Through community mobilisation, gender-equity awareness and savings groups we build resilience and enduring livelihoods.
By project's end, at least 80 % of the 500 families will have improved their socio-economic status and dietary diversity. 100 % of the 20 AVEC groups will be revitalised and financially supported. These gains ripple: empowered women spend more on healthcare and education, children escape exploitation, communities begin generating local income, not dependency. Over time, this transforms conflict-affected zones of North-Kivu into zones of hope and self-reliance.
