Support for Vulnerable Families in North Kivu

By VERITE | CORDINATOR

1. Project Context

The Masisi region in North Kivu has been severely affected by years of armed conflict and volcanic risks. These crises have destroyed livelihoods, displaced families, and weakened local agriculture. Over 70% of households live below the extreme poverty line, and food insecurity affects everyone—especially vulnerable women, widows, orphans, and people with disabilities.

2. Project Objective

This project aims to support 500 vulnerable households (290 women and 210 men) by providing:

  • Seeds (vegetables, soy) and agricultural tools.
  • Funding to start small businesses.
  • Training in sustainable agriculture and income-generating activities.
  • Strengthening 20 women’s support groups (AVEC) through technical and financial support.

These actions will help families improve food security and achieve economic independence.

3. Planned Activities

  • Distribute seeds and tools to targeted households.
  • Provide practical training in small-scale farming and business management.
  • Support the creation and revitalization of the 20 AVEC groups.
  • Conduct regular follow-up and technical support to ensure success.
  • Raise awareness about gender equality and promote community savings groups.

4. Expected Results

  • At least 80% of households will see improvements in their socio-economic and food security situation.
  • The 20 AVEC groups will be fully functional and sustainably supported.
  • Empowered women will invest more in health and children’s education.
  • Communities will start generating local income and reduce dependency on external aid.

5. Budget

The total project budget is USD 45,000. To date, no funds have been raised, but thanks to our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we are confident in reaching our goal and starting the project in November 2025.

6. Current Phase

  • Identifying trainers and beneficiaries.
  • Preparing logistics for project implementation.

7. Call to Donors

We invite all donors to join this vital initiative for families in North Kivu. Every contribution will transform the lives of 500 households, improve access to food, strengthen local capacities, and create a lasting impact in this fragile region.

8. Acknowledgments

We sincerely thank everyone who has already supported this project. Your generosity is key to restoring hope and autonomy to North Kivu communities. Together, we can build a safer and more prosperous future for these vulnerable families.
