Summary

Peace Warabe Japan aims to support young people from around the world who experienced natural or man-made disaster to join a one-week summer camp in Japan. At the camp, they will meet other students of diverse backgrounds and will learn about world issues and leadership by participating in interactive, fun group activities. Through exposure to new perspectives and ideas, they will discover positive ways to view and digest their own past experiences and use them to realize their full potential.

Challenge

The emotional impact disasters have on communities, particularly young students, is often overlooked. Many young people have lost friends and relatives, or witnessed their neighborhood destroyed. These experiences have led to dwindling confidence in their own future, dimming dreams and curbing goals. Restoring the confidence and hope of our young people is paramount to the complete restoration of a community.

Solution

Positive peer influence is essential to helping youth restore confidence in themselves. PWJ will host an international summer camp that provides an open platform where young people meet others from around the world with diverse backgrounds and dreams. The curriculum will be set on campers working in groups to achieve a common goal, fostering engagement, and realizing their full potential. Through this exchange, students will open their minds to the possible and the hope of future dreams.

Long-Term Impact

In addition to the positive impact to the emotional state of the campers, this camp will help develop resilience and a hopeful attitude to face future hardships. The program will also equip them with global visions, critical thinking and the leadership skills essential for their future development. The camp will also instill qualities to become potential innovators who cast a sustainable future for their communities and the world.
