Challenge

More than 75 percent of people living in rural communities in Nigeria do not have literacy skills to read and write basic English language which has caused serious damages to their health and in some cases, death due to inability to read prescriptions and apply the right dosage; many families have lost their children to Human Traffickers because both parents and children didnot have basic literacy skills to understand immigration terms and agreements.

Solution

The project will allow parents and children to learn together using andragogical and pedagogical teaching methods. It will be accessible to every vulnerable household, with flexible contact sessions. The project which teaches beginning level English will also teach topics such as health, parenting, school, empowerment, life skills etc and will foster strong family ties among the participating families. Certificates of attendance and opportunity for further learning will be provided.

Long-Term Impact

Course Completers who have interest in further learning will be enrolled at Government Schools, monitor their progress and ensure this opportunity continues. The communities will experience transformation as this will bring development, foster social interaction and bridge the knowledge gap between the rural communities and urban centres. This project will educate 1500 families in Nigeria by 2023.
