Challenge

The ongoing violent conflict in Nigeria's North East has uprooted over 2.0 million people from their homes. 81% of total population of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are in Borno State according to the IOM's DTM Round XXV of October 2018. Although the State and Federal governments are working to put an end to the crisis, the IDPs are at risk of starvation and diseases as they live under extreme poor conditions without access to basic needs. This project will impact 1000 IDP HHs in Borno

Solution

The project will build the technical and business capacities of 120 IDPs who will produce and disseminate 50,000 briquettes to 1000 households in the project area. to this end, 3 training/production centers will be constructed for IDPs in 3 locations. The project will also improve living conditions in the area as rich foodstuffs, Clothes, mobile Healthcare services and educational supports will be provided for most vulnerable IDPs from 3 LGAs (Maiduguri M.C, Jere and Konduga) in Borno State .

Long-Term Impact

The project will bring economic, social and psychological wellness to the beneficiary households because trained beneficiaries will be empowered to generate income from production and sales of briquettes in the long run thereby contributing positively to their communities. The project will also reduce communal conflicts and Gender Based Violence associated with firewood collection in the area, improve the living conditions of the people and promote environmental sustainability in the long run.
