The incidence of poverty in Rwanda is higher in rural area than in urban areas, 32.1% and 13.4% respectively. This project will enable us to support 200 poor families from Burega sector, a rural area of the Rulindo District, with pigs that they can raise and breed for a source of income. The goal of this project is to allow poor families to acquire a steady source of income that will improve their health and the standard of living. The use of pigs' manure will increase crop yield during harvest.
Rwanda is a small landlocked country in East Africa, 39% of the population live below the poverty line and 16% live in extreme poverty. Given these conditions, poor families share common difficulties; poor access to infrastructure, infertile lands, and low household income. This project will allow 200 poor families to generate a sustainable income and improve their health and the standard of living.
The goal of this project is to support 200 Families of the Burega sector with pigs to raise and breed as a starting place for their livestock business. Rwandan Youth Development and Voluntary Organization will provide the necessary needs such as shelters, food and veterinary costs. The project also will teach these families the technical farming skills. By empowering them social- economically, we will allow them to move out of poverty and contribute the development of the country.
This project will empower 200 families which will allow them to break the cycle of poverty and become financially independent. With a sustainable income, these families will be able to pay for their children to go to school, access health care resources, and provide nutritious meals to their children and family, hence this project will reduce the burden due to poverty in Rulindo district.
