The recent rains that have fallen in Zimbabwe, albeit very late, have been gratefully received by all of us. Farmers can finally start planting their crops and their livestock are now enjoying the new grass. However, the rains also mean an explosion in the number of animal parasites including ticks and many different species of intestinal worms that affect the health of our livestock.
Yesterday, the team at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS' sponsored goat project made routine calls on some of the project's beneficiaries to dip and dose their goat herds. This is to ensure that the animals put on condition in this brief time of plenty.
At one homestead, our team was assisted by the owner's grandchildren to dip, apply tick grease and de worm each of their goats. The children really took this task seriously and also learned a lot from our goat project supervisor.
The team here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS thanks you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in Africa. As you start to make decisions regarding your giving this year, please keep us in mind so we can continue our good work through 2024 and beyond. If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
