Over the past months, we performed a deep evaluation of the impact of our work in Samburu County over the last few years. We’ve seen how access to water and food-producing trees is quietly reshaping daily life for families, schools, and community gathering spaces.
Many participants shared how learning to care for their own trees has brought a renewed sense of pride and independence into their lives. With water available closer to home, women and children are spending less time collecting water and more time caring for gardens, preparing meals, and participating in school and community life. Simple routines like washing hands, cooking regularly, and watering young trees have become easier and more consistent.
Schools and churches, in particular, have become important centers of this change. Trees planted there now provide shade, food, and welcoming spaces where children learn, play, and eat together. We’ve heard from parents and teachers how children are becoming more curious about food, more involved in caring for plants, and more hopeful about what their land can provide.
What stands out most is the growing sense of optimism. Communities are working together, sharing water and knowledge, and seeing tangible improvements around them. These changes are growing resilience, dignity, and connection.
This important work is made possible by the amazing support of our donors, volunteers, and the GlobalGiving community; so Thank You!
